Baseball Game Preview: Leetonia Bears vs. Southern Indians

Leetonia is 1-9 against Southern since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Bears will be playing in front of their home fans against the Indians at 4:15 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Leetonia is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Jefferson County Christian on Tuesday. They lost 10-2 to the Royals. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Meanwhile, Southern came up short against Leetonia and fell 12-8.

Mason Pitts was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. Pitts was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-5.

In other batting news, Zac Mayfield made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-4. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Brody Brown was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Leetonia now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Southern, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Leetonia was able to grind out a solid victory over Southern in their previous matchup on Monday, winning 12-8. Do the Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
