Softball Game Preview: Genoa-Kingston Cogs vs. Winnebago Indians

The Genoa-Kingston Cogs will challenge the Winnebago Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Genoa-Kingston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.

Genoa-Kingston took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They walked away with a 10-5 win over Rochelle.

Kennedy Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Genoa-Kingston got a massive performance out of Brooklynn Ordlock, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Elizabeth Davis was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Genoa-Kingston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are 8-3 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Winnebago came out on top against Byron on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fourth inning. The Indians put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 9-1 victory. Considering the Indians have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Genoa-Kingston has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-13 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Winnebago, their victory bumped their record up to 14-7.

Everything went Genoa-Kingston's way against Winnebago in their previous matchup back in April, as Genoa-Kingston made off with a 21-3 win. Do the Cogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
