While Mt. Blue's victory against Skowhegan wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cougars narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the River Hawks 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since May 29, 2025.

Brayden Simmons looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Parker Smith and Jax Vienneau did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 2-for-5 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Vienneau went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Mt. Blue and bumps their season record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Skowhegan, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Mt. Blue will face off against Edward Little at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Skowhegan, they will take on Nokomis at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
