Basketball Preview: Bishop O'Connell Knights vs. Sidwell Friends Quakers
Having just played yesterday, the Bishop O'Connell Knights will jump right back in to play the Sidwell Friends Quakers at 4:40 p.m. on Sunday. Bishop O'Connell knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Sidwell Friends likes a good challenge.
Bishop O'Connell is headed into this one coming off a big win against nationally ranked Imhotep Charter (Bishop O'Connell was ranked 13th at the time). The Knights walked away with a 57-50 win over the Panthers on Saturday. Those 57 points were actually the fewest the Knights have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Corey Dixon had another great game (as he tends to do), putting up 20 points and five steals. Darius Bivins was another key player, scoring nine points and seven assists.
Meanwhile, Sidwell Friends suffered their closest defeat since January 31st on Friday. They fell just short of DeMatha by a score of 44-41.
Bishop O'Connell's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Sidwell Friends, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
Bishop O'Connell won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in December of 2024, slipping by Sidwell Friends 46-45. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
