Softball Recap: Rock Ridge Comes Up Short

Rock Ridge had lost six straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 6-13 to make it seven. They came up short against the Heritage Pride, falling 9-1. The Phoenix were not able to make up for their defeat to the Pride from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Kyra Young was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

As for Heritage, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games.

On Heritage's side, Gabbie Haynie made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Haynie has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Audrey Ellison was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Noelle Smith, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

While Rock Ridge had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
