The Lincoln Zebras will take on the Wheatland Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lincoln is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Lincoln is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Oakmont just ended the team's 16-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against the Vikings, falling 14-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Zebras have suffered since April 25, 2025.
Lincoln got a good showing from Billy Bass, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Dylan Knell made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Daxton Sampang was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Wheatland had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Spartans a 5-0 shutout.
Wheatland's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kale Nakamura, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Wheatland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .345 or higher in four consecutive games.
Wheatland's win bumped their record up to 19-6. As for Lincoln, their loss dropped their record down to 19-3-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Lincoln has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Wheatland struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
