Softball Recap: Ridgedale Comes Up Short

If Ridgedale was feeling good fresh off their 11-1 takedown of Waynesfield-Goshen on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Rockets fell just short of the Madison Christian Eagles by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday.

Kiley Slone put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Ridgedale's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-12. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.67 runs. As for Madison Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.

Ridgedale will challenge Perry at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Commodores have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 22.08 runs per game on average), something the Rockets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Madison Christian, they will be taking part in a tournament against Millersport at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
