Basketball Recap: Alayia Hutchinson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Nimitz over College Park

Nimitz extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-3. They took a 52-36 bruising from the College Park Cavaliers. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cavaliers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2019.

Nimitz's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alayia Hutchinson, who almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Tatiyana Cole was another key player, putting up seven points.

As for College Park, their win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. The road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.5 points over those games.

Brooke Smith had an outrageously good game as she dropped a double-double with 16 points and 12 boards. Those 12 rebounds gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gretchen Wright, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten boards.

Looking ahead, Nimitz will be playing in front of their home fans against Cypress Ranch at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for College Park, they will head out to face off against Klein Forest at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.
