Basketball Recap: Shea Comes Up Short

Shea lost against St. Mary Academy-Bay View two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Shea Raiders fell 57-45 to the St. Mary Academy-Bay View Bengals. The Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Shea lost, don't look at Tiyara Gonzalez. Despite the final result, she posted 18 points and six assists. That was a full 40% of Shea's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Azilyn Medina, who had nine points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Mary Academy-Bay View to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mia Forbes, who went 9 of 14 on her way to 19 points and three steals. Forbes is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Qiana Sumner, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Shea now has a losing record at 3-4. As for St. Mary Academy-Bay View, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Shea will square off against Juanita Sanchez Complex at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Shea is facing Juanita Sanchez Complex at the right time seeing as Juanita Sanchez Complex is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for St. Mary Academy-Bay View, they will take on Westerly at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Mary Academy-Bay View is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.8 points per game this season.
