Softball Recap: Abingdon/Avon Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Abingdon/Avon had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They came up short against the Alleman Pioneers on Monday, falling 19-9. The Tornadoes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pioneers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Morgan Tracey and Emma Gunther stepped up to the plate in a big way. Tracey scored a run while going 1-for-2, while Gunther scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Avery Stegall was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Abingdon/Avon didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 17-5 loss against Mercer County on the 18th. As for Alleman, they will take on Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
