The Lafayette Generals will take on the Lexington Catholic Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lafayette will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Lafayette proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 12) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Ballard, sneaking past 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Generals have posted since April 27, 2024.
Rylan Music made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed 6.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits. Music was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brynna Harris, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Kierstyn Kelley was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Lexington Catholic hadn't done well against Ballard recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Lexington Catholic walked away with a 9-4 win over Ballard. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Knights as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Abby Hammond spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Katie Prisinzano was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Those runs were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sydney Ford, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
Lafayette's win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Lexington Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
Lexington Catholic's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lafayette has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .472. It's a different story for Lexington Catholic, though, as they've only averaged .305. Will they be able to contain Lafayette's hitters?
Lafayette might still be hurting after the 8-1 defeat they got from Lexington Catholic in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can Lafayette avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
