Basketball Recap: Kaelyn Pierre's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Colonial Christian over Mater Bay Academy

Colonial Christian was the 54-39 winner over Mater Bay Academy when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Colonial Christian Patriots fell to the Mater Bay Academy Rays 31-26. The contest marked the Patriots' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Several Patriots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kaelyn Pierre, who posted four points and four steals. Pierre is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played.

Even though they lost, Colonial Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Mater Bay Academy was led to victory by Victoria Josephs and Melany Morales. Josephs dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards, while Morales earned seven points and nine rebounds. Those seven points gave Morales a new career-high. Mia Diaz also deserves some recognition as she pulled down her first rebound of the season.

Colonial Christian's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Mater Bay Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.

Colonial Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 46-21 defeat against Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) on the 13th. Mater Bay Academy has also already played their next contest, a 29-27 win against Somerset Academy South Homestead on the 10th.
