Softball Recap: East Lyme Vikings vs. Ledyard Colonels
East Lyme had lost five straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-7 to make it six. They fell 8-5 to the Ledyard Colonels. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Colonels apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Kinzie Donahue made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Lloyd, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Ledyard, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games.
On Ledyard's side, Alexia Lemmon made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Lemmon has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julia Bonser, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one RBI. Sadie Bordeleau was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Looking ahead, East Lyme will be playing in front of their home fans against Plainfield at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Ledyard, they will head out to challenge Lyman Memorial at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
