Preview: Strayhorn Mustangs vs. Baldwyn Bearcats
The Strayhorn Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Baldwyn Bearcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Two weeks ago, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Strayhorn had to settle for a 23-20 defeat against Potts Camp.
The losing side was boosted by Hayden Alsup, who rushed for 256 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.5 yards per carry, and also caught a touchdown.
Meanwhile, there was early excitement for Baldwyn after they claimed the first score on Thursday, but it was Tupelo Christian Prep who ended up claiming the real prize. Baldwyn took a 20-13 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tupelo Christian Prep. Baldwyn gained 101 more yards on the day, but it was Tupelo Christian Prep that made the best of use of them.
Despite their loss, Baldwyn saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Dy'Lan Johnson, who threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80.8% of his passes, was perhaps the best of all.
Strayhorn has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Baldwyn, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-5.
Things could have been worse for Strayhorn, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 20-6 loss to Baldwyn in their previous meeting back in September of 2018. Can Strayhorn avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
