Basketball Recap: Highlands' Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

It was a good run, but Highlands unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 63-37 to the Burbank Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Owls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 854th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 384th).

Highlands' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elaya Walker, who posted eight points and eight boards. Karyssa Walker was another key player, putting up four points and eight rebounds.

Burbank got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zara?Nique Nealy out in front who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 16 boards. Nealy is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last 15 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Makayla Smith, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds.

Highlands now has a losing record at 14-15. As for Burbank, they pushed their record up to 17-11 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Brackenridge the next time they take the court. Highlands will host Brackenridge at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while Burbank will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on January 23rd.
