Basketball Recap: Chiefland Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Chiefland can now relate to. They lost to the Hawthorne Hornets on the road by a 68-52 margin on Wednesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now lost nine in a row.

Hawthorne's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dacarion Debose led the charge by going 8 of 12 on his way to 23 points and five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Debose has scored at least a third of Hawthorne's points. Another player making a difference was Kelvin Baker, who went 7 for 14 en route to 17 points in addition to six steals and five boards.

Chiefland's loss dropped their record down to 15-10. As for Hawthorne, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-2 record this season.

Chiefland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hawthorne, they will challenge Williston on Friday. Williston has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight defeats, while Hawthorne will come in with eight straight victories.
