Softball Recap: Sandusky Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Clyde, Sandusky was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top against the Bellevue Redmen by a score of 9-6. For the Blue Streaks, this counts as revenge for the 14-4 victory the Redmen walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Kaylee Summers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Savannah Palmer and Makayla Popke did most of the damage at the plate: Palmer went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run, while Popke went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Popke a new career-high. Alidra Johnson also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Sandusky's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 5-6. As for Bellevue, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-8.

Coming up, Sandusky will host Mansfield Senior at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bellevue, they will head out on the road to challenge Hopewell-Loudon at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Redmen's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chieftains have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season.
