Two dominant signal callers in Mac Long and Mark Norris are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Coosa Christian Conquerors will head out on the road to square off against the Tuscaloosa Academy Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Coosa Christian comes in on seven and Tuscaloosa Academy on four.
Coosa Christian's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat West End 55-0. That looming 55-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Conquerors yet this season.
Joseph East was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 100 yards and two TDs on only six carries. He didn't just play on offense: he also picked up a sack and made six total tackles.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Coosa Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 252 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Another reason for the win was Coosa Christian's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Zayden Franklin with two. Radley Mays was another major factor on D, forcing two fumbles and making nine total tackles (6.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tuscaloosa Academy). They blew past Sulligent 48-26 on Friday. That's two games straight that the Knights have won by exactly 22 points.
Coosa Christian better focus on containing Mason Corder and Ty Johnson as the pair were huge in Tuscaloosa Academy's win. Corder picked up 51 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Johnson gained 96 total yards and a touchdown.
Coosa Christian's record now sits at 7-2. As for Tuscaloosa Academy, their record is now 7-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Coosa Christian has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 150.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Tuscaloosa Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 148.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Coosa Christian strolled past Tuscaloosa Academy in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a score of 35-21. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Knights' Preston Lancaster, who threw for 209 yards and two TDs, and also rushed for 67 yards and one score on only eight carries. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Conquerors to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
