Football Recap: Jay Starts off Right with Win over Holmes

Jay took care of business in their home opener on Saturday. They took down the Holmes Huskies 28-14. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Leading Jay to victory were Brennan Oliver and Tajari Wellington. Oliver rushed for 104 yards and one touchdown, while Wellington threw for 83 yards and one TD while completing 75% of his passes.

Holmes' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Michael Coleman, who picked up 121 receiving yards and a pair of scores, and Jayden Hopkins, who threw for 168 yards and a pair of TDs on only 13 passes. Coleman also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing one fumble, making eight total tackles, and defending one pass.

Jay wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 37-31 win against Lehman on the 5th. As for Holmes, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 20-13 victory against MacArthur on the 6th.
