Football Recap: Jay Starts Season with Victory at Home

Jay took care of business in their home opener on Saturday. They took down the Holmes Huskies 28-14. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Jay was led to victory by Brennan Oliver and Tajari Wellington. Oliver rushed for 104 yards and one score, while Wellington threw for 83 yards and one TD while completing 75% of his passes.

Holmes' loss came despite strong showings from Michael Coleman and Jayden Hopkins. Coleman picked up 121 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Hopkins threw for 168 yards and a pair of TDs on only 13 passes. Coleman also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble, making eight total tackles, and defending one pass.

Looking ahead, Jay will challenge Lehman at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Holmes, they will face off against MacArthur at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
