Softball Game Preview: Enterprise Wildcats vs. Opp Bobcats

The Enterprise Wildcats will face off against the Opp Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Enterprise 3.4, Opp 1.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Enterprise's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Tuesday's struggle, when Dothan hitters got past them. The Wildcats fell 11-7 to the Wolves on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last eight times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Meanwhile, Opp had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Eagles. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won 14 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Gradyn Lunsford looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.

On the hitting side, Opp let Taylor Adams and Crislyn Birge run wild. Adams scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Birge scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Birge has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of McKenzie Henderson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Opp always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carroll only posted an OBP of .200.

Enterprise's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-5. As for Opp, their win bumped their record up to 20-8.

Enterprise might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Opp when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
