Basketball Recap: North Newton Triumphs

North Newton's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They skirted past the Donovan Wildcats 38-36. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Spartans have posted since December 2, 2023.

North Newton found their leader in freshman Addison Culbreth, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for Culbreth. June Busboom was another key player, putting up five points and three steals.

North Newton was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in November of 2024.

North Newton's victory bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Donovan, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

North Newton has already played their next match, a 55-45 win against South Newton on the 30th. As for Donovan, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Milford at 6:00 p.m. on February 11th.
