Softball Recap: Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Gets the Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They skirted past the Heyworth Hornets 5-4. For the Falcons, this counts as revenge for the 14-3 victory the Hornets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Mallory Rosendahl spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kyra Kietzman, who scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Thais Rodriguez, who went 2-for-5 with one double and one RBI.

Kietzman wasn't the only one making solid contact: Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heyworth only managed nine hits.

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Heyworth, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley will welcome Bloomington Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons are facing the Saints at the right time seeing as the Saints are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Heyworth, they will head out to take on Havana at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
