Baseball Game Preview: Highland Trojans vs. Andrean Fighting 59ers

Highland hasn't had much luck against Andrean recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Trojans will challenge the Fighting 59ers at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

As a matter of fact, Highland put up the most runs they have all season on Thursday. They blew past Hammond Central 17-2. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Trojans with their most commanding win of the season.

Caden VanderMeyden looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Nate Phillips was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Caden Quigg was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Highland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hammond Central only posted a batting average of .267.

Meanwhile, Andrean was not the first on the board on Saturday, but they got there more often. They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over Fenwick. The Fighting 59ers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Highland's record is now 4-7. As for Andrean, their record now sits at 11-1.

Highland suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Andrean in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
