Recap: Venture Academy Mustangs vs. Elliot Christian Eagles
Make it 16 blowout wins for the Venture Academy Mustangs this season. They blew past Elliot Christian 85-47 on the road on Friday. Given Venture Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 212th, while the Eagles are ranked 1175th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cameron Lowe continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Marcos Rosales was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.
Elliot Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jayden Gaither, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Gaither is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down 11 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jeremy Nielsen, who scored 17 points.
Venture Academy pushed their record up to 20-2 with that win, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 27.4 points. As for Elliot Christian, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-14.
Venture Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Huskies at 8:00 p.m. on January 27th. Sheldon knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully the Mustangs likes a good challenge. As for Elliot Christian, they will head out on the road to challenge the Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Stone Ridge Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Saturday.
