Football Game Preview: Cottonwood Colts vs. Skyline Eagles

The Cottonwood Colts will head out to challenge the Skyline Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cottonwood hasn't scored more than seven points for six games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 35-6, which was the final score in Cottonwood's tilt against Juan Diego Catholic last Thursday.

Meanwhile, Skyline came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26 points), and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 42-13 victory over the Beetdiggers. Considering the Eagles have won three matchups by more than 28 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Cottonwood better keep an eye on Xavier Cocci. He was instrumental in Skyline's win, throwing for 396 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes, and also punching in one score on the ground. A healthy portion of Cocci's aerial production (97 yards to be exact) went to Luke Frey.

Cottonwood's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Skyline, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Cottonwood was taken down by Skyline 69-0 in their previous matchup back in September of 2020. Thankfully for the Colts, Braxton Darren Bolingbroke (who threw for 194 yards and four TDs while completing 87.5% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
