Basketball Recap: Oxford Academy Takes a Loss

Oxford Academy played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Cooperstown Hawkeyes and fell 84-52. The Blackhawks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-27.

Leading Cooperstown to victory were Cooper Coleman and Miles Nelen. Coleman went 8 for 13 on his way to 18 points, while Nelen went 6 of 9 en route to 19 points and six rebounds. Those 18 points gave Coleman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Bradley, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 11 points and five rebounds.

Oxford Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Cooperstown, the win keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oxford Academy will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Edmeston Central at 6:00 p.m. on January 10, 2025. As for Cooperstown, they will look to defend their home court on January 3, 2025 against Sherburne-Earlville at 7:00 p.m. Cooperstown is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 81.2 points per game this season.
