Softball Recap: Labrae Takes Down Girard in a Playoff Battle

LaBrae had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Girard Indians 8-6. This was a revenge game for the Vikings: when they faced off against the Indians two weeks ago, they had to take a 9-6 loss.

Leah DeArmitt and Riley Rowe made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, DeArmitt tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Rowe struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. DeArmitt has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, DeArmitt went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Rowe went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Morgan Thompson was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

LaBrae is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That somehow still isn't as good as their 21-6 record this season. As for Girard, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-14.

As of now, neither LaBrae nor the Indians have any future games scheduled.
