Baseball Recap: Gueydan Comes Up Short

Gueydan extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 2-18. They lost 14-1 to the Berchmans Academy Saints. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Saints this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-1 back in February.

As for Berchmans Academy, they pushed their record up to 11-12 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The result was nothing new for the Saints, who have now won eight contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

For Berchmans Academy's part, Max Yerger made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Yerger a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run. Berchmans Academy is 7-2 when Yerger posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, Gage Richard was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Berchmans Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-12 otherwise. Collin Schexnayder was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Coming up, Gueydan will take on V.B. Glencoe Charter at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Berchmans Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
