The Hernando Tigers will square off against the Clinton Arrows at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Clinton will be up against a hot Hernando team: the squad just extended their winning streak to ten. Hernando put the hurt on East Union with a sharp 16-3 victory on Friday. The Tigers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Hernando let Callie Desmond and Macie Dever Boaz run wild. Desmond went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles, while Dever Boaz scored four runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most hits Desmond has posted since back in March of 2024. Hayden Hodge was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Hernando was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .361 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Clinton got themselves on the board against Pearl on Thursday, but Pearl never followed suit. They were the clear victor by a 12-0 margin over the Pirates. The win continues a trend for the Arrows in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won six in a row.
Makenzie Cooley was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Destiny Funchess, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Hernando pushed their record up to 10-0 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Clinton, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
Hernando's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's matchup. Hernando has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Clinton, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Hernando continue to outrun the ball?
Hernando was able to grind out a solid victory over Clinton in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, winning 7-2. Will Hernando repeat their success, or does Clinton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
