Preview: Waterloo Cougars vs. Vina Red Devils
The Waterloo Cougars will be home for the holidays to greet the Vina Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Waterloo unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 49-41 to Shoals Christian. Waterloo has struggled against Shoals Christian recently, as their contest on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Vina's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a 46-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hackleburg. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Vina has scored all season.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Sara Harper, who scored 13 points. Harper is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Layla Hester was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with four steals.
Waterloo's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Vina, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season.
Waterloo beat Vina 62-50 in their previous meeting back in November. Will Waterloo repeat their success, or does Vina have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
