Baseball Recap: Knightdale Has No Trouble Against Smithfield-Selma

Knightdale came out on top against Smithfield-Selma on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run third inning. The Knights blew past the Spartans 14-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 17-6 back in February.

Cameron Bosak and Maximo Jimenez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Bosak pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Jimenez pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Bosak went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Jimenez went 1-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Bosak has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Knightdale let Bryson Irvin and Tylen Harris run wild. Irvin went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI, while Harris went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits Harris has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gary Rodriguez, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Knightdale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are 5-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Knightdale's win bumped their record up to 7-16. As for Smithfield-Selma, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-21.

Knightdale and Smithfield-Selma could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Knights will square off against Millbrook at 7:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (340 vs. 39). Meanwhile, Smithfield-Selma (ranked 482nd) will meet C.B. Aycock (ranked 215th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
