Softball Preview: Mapleton Mounties vs. St. Paul Flyers

The Mapleton Mounties will head out on the road to face off against the St. Paul Flyers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mapleton has nine straight wins, St. Paul has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Wednesday, Mapleton sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over New London. Despite the win, that was the fewest runs Mapleton has scored all season.

Meanwhile, St. Paul came up short against Western Reserve on Tuesday and fell 5-1.

Isabella Guerra put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Guerra was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with a triple and a run.

Mapleton's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those victories were due in large part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs per game. As for St. Paul, their record now sits at 1-7.
