Soccer Game Preview: Weslaco vs. Los Fresnos

Weslaco is 0-9-1 against Los Fresnos since January of 2020 but things could change on Thursday. The Weslaco Panthers will be playing at home against the Los Fresnos Falcons at 6:00 p.m. Weslaco has given up an average of 2.9 goals per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week.

Weslaco is likely headed into the match with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Economedes on Tuesday. Weslaco lost 7-1 to Economedes. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 362nd, while the Jaguars are ranked 28th).

Meanwhile, Los Fresnos came tearing into last Friday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.4 goals), and they left with even more momentum. Their defense stepped up to hand the Golden Eagles a 6-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won nine games by three goals or more so far this season.

They hit Hanna with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from JP Izaguirre (3), Manuel Silva, Angel Gonzalez, and Josh Trejo.

Los Fresnos' win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 19 goals over those four matchups. As for Weslaco, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9-1.
