Roncalli Catholic has gone 9-1 against South Sioux City recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Crimson Pride will be taking part in a tournament against the Cardinals at 4:45 p.m.
On Tuesday, Roncalli Catholic came up short against Concordia/Brownell/Omaha Christian Academy and fell 8-3. The Crimson Pride haven't had much luck with Concordia/Brownell/Omaha Christian Academy recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Kaden Bey was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Brady Shetlar was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three match, South Sioux City brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Buena Vista a 10-0 shutout on Wednesday. With that victory, the Cardinals brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
Darrius Helms was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because South Sioux City is 4-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-6 otherwise. Helms was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braden Barnett, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jackson Jensen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
South Sioux City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Roncalli Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for South Sioux City, they moved to 6-8 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Roncalli Catholic took their victory against South Sioux City in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 8-1 score. Will the Crimson Pride repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
