Basketball Recap: Golden West Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Porterville, Golden West was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They came out on top against the Mt. Whitney Pioneers by a score of 66-57. That's more bragging rights for the Trailblazers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

When it comes to explaining why Mt. Whitney lost, don't look at Adrian Huerta. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance gave Huerta a new career-high in points. Matt Townsend was another key player, going 5 for 11 on his way to 12 points and four steals.

Golden West's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Mt. Whitney, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-14 record this season.

Golden West will be taking part in a tournament against Minarets at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Mt. Whitney, they will venture away from home to challenge Exeter at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Exeter will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Mt. Whitney surely won't give up without a fight.
