Recap: Sesser-Valier Red Devils vs. Waltonville Spartans

The Sesser-Valier Red Devils were the 49-45 winner over the Waltonville Spartans when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Sesser-Valier lost to Waltonville on the road by a decisive 62-43 margin on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Sesser-Valier can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 524th, while Waltonville is ranked 247th).

Leading Waltonville to victory were Gage Peterson and Kyle Cooper. Peterson almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds, while Cooper scored 24 points along with six rebounds. Peterson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Seth Karnes, who scored seven points.

Sesser-Valier's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-17. As for Waltonville, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which somehow isn't as good as their 19-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sesser-Valier will take on Goreville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Goreville's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 13 contests. As for Waltonville, they will be playing at home against Johnston City at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
