Softball Game Preview: Gonzales Apaches vs. McCollum Cowboys

The Gonzales Apaches will head out on the road to square off against the McCollum Cowboys at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Tuesday, Gonzales got the win against John F. Kennedy by a conclusive 13-5. The win continues a trend for the Apaches in their matchups with the Rockets: they've now won six in a row.

Gonzales let Alaina Valle and Peyton Springfield run wild. Valle went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Springfield went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave Springfield a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Carrizales, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one triple.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Gonzales kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.

Meanwhile, McCollum got themselves on the board against Harlandale on Friday, but Harlandale never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 11-0 victory.

Gonzales' record now sits at 8-9. As for McCollum, their record is now 14-5.
