Basketball Recap: Perkins County Plainsmen vs. South Platte Blue Knights

Perkins County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 64-53 to the South Platte Blue Knights. The Plainsmen were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.

Despite the loss, Perkins County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ella Homan went 9 of 17 en route to 23 points along with five boards and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Homan has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacqueline Gloy, who posted seven points.

Even though they lost, Perkins County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

It was another big night for Johanna Frerichs, who went 7 of 13 on her way to 17 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals for South Platte. Frerichs is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabelle Reichman, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.

Perkins County's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for South Platte, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Perkins County will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Wallace at 2:00 p.m. As for South Platte, they will face off against Mitchell at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mitchell has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
