Football Recap: Canyon Piles Up the Points Against La Mirada

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Canyon). They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat the La Mirada Matadores 57-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Comanches' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked eighth, while the Matadores are ranked 353rd).

One reason for the win was Canyon's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Kylee Rose, Ariel Lantz-Loza, and Maya Conklin, who each picked up one sack apiece. Katy Cott got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

The victory made it two in a row for Canyon and bumps their season record up to 9-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.5 points over those games. As for La Mirada, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Canyon didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 28-13 victory against Aliso Niguel on the 4th. As for La Mirada, they will welcome La Habra at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
