Softball Game Preview: Neumann Celtics vs. Golden Gate Titans

Neumann has gone 8-2 against Golden Gate recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Celtics will look to defend their home field against the Titans at 6:00 p.m. The last four games Neumann has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Neumann took a 16-run defeat the last time they faced off against Palmetto Ridge, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Celtics had just enough and edged out the Bears 5-4 on Monday. That's two games straight that the Celtics have won by just one run.

Sophia Escobar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Neumann saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jennifer Drake, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Jacie Barth was another, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Golden Gate played against Barron Collier on Thursday and lost via forfeit.

Neumann pushed their record up to 13-3 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Golden Gate, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-12.

Neumann took their win against Golden Gate in their previous matchup on April 3rd by a conclusive 11-0 score. Do the Celtics have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Titans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
