Baseball Recap: Hammond Comes Up Short

Hammond was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ponchatoula Green Wave. That's two games in a row now that the Tornadoes have lost by just one run.

Justin Harland was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season.

Hammond's defeat dropped their record down to 5-24. As for Ponchatoula, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-9 record this season.

Hammond will challenge Springfield at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Ponchatoula, they will square off against Opelousas Catholic at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Green Wave 3.4, the Vikings 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
