Baseball Recap: West Point Comes Up Short

West Point dropped down to 9-6 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Brewer Patriots by a score of 5-4. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2017.

As for Brewer, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. While they didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

For Brewer's part, their win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Bryson Stump, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Matthew Matkin also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

West Point and Brewer should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings. The Warriors will face off against Lawrence County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (135 vs. 320). Meanwhile, Brewer (ranked 90th) will meet Guntersville (ranked 295th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
