UMS-Wright Prep was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Escambia County 50-15. The Bulldogs came in at 22 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.
UMS-Wright Prep was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in 4A Region 1. Earlier in the week, Terry Curtis's team defeated the Blue Devils 50-15.
The Bulldogs' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Gunner Roach threw for 80 yards and Thomas Harmon had 36 yards receiving. On the ground Troy Dixon chipped in 196 yards. Chauncey Callier helped UMS-Wright Prep's passing attack out by catching one ball for 14 yards.
Andalusia's Michael McCalman and Keontya Johnson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. McCalman has thrown for 448 yards this season, while Johnson, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has six catches for 164 yards. Dixon from UMS-Wright Prep leads the league in rushing with 647 yards.
The Bulldogs took down Escambia County 50-15 last week, the largest margin of any game. Dixon caught one passes for seven yards in the win.
