Preview: Somerset Academy Panthers vs. Calvary Christian Academy Eagles
The Somerset Academy Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Calvary Christian Academy Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Somerset Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 869 points over their last 12 games.
You can't lose the match if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Somerset Academy's strategy against the Panthers on Monday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Somerset Academy blew the Panthers out of the water with a 80-38 final score. Given Somerset Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while the Panthers are ranked 569th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Johnathan Point du jour, who scored 14 points along with five steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Henderson, who scored ten points along with five assists.
Meanwhile, Calvary Christian Academy came up short against the Lions on Saturday and fell 57-50. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Calvary Christian Academy has scored all season.
Shon Abaev put forth a good effort for the losing side as he dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. He hasn't dropped below 16 points for six straight games. Another player making a difference was John Roland, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Somerset Academy is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. As for Calvary Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-8.
Somerset Academy was dealt a bruising 79-49 loss at the hands of the Eagles in their previous meeting back in December of 2019. Thankfully for Somerset Academy, Dylan Canoville (who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
