Basketball Recap: North Miami Beats Coconut Creek for Their Sixth Straight Win

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but North Miami ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They wrapped up 2024 with a 65-51 victory over the Coconut Creek Cougars. Given the Pioneers' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 340th, while the Cougars are ranked 707th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jonathan Joseph was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. The match was his third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kingson Valcourt, who went 5 of 8 en route to 13 points and three steals.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tavares Holmes, who posted 12 points along with six steals and five boards. The dominant performance also gave Holmes a new career-high in assists (three). Nash Youte was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points.

The win (which was North Miami's sixth in a row) raised their record to 7-2. As for Coconut Creek, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

North Miami wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 48-37 victory against West Hall on the 28th. As for Coconut Creek, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-54 loss against Braddock on the 28th.
