The Jennings Bulldogs will challenge the DeQuincy Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Jennings is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 20-2 margin over Lake Arthur on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won five in a row.
Kylie Price made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Jennings got a massive performance out of Emma Venable, who went 1-for-2 with four RBI and two runs. Another player making a difference was Malaya Sonnier, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Jennings always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, DeQuincy came into Tuesday's matchup having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against East Beauregard by a score of 10-7 on Tuesday.
Bella Moore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in February.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emily Cooley, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Addli Scott, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Jennings' win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for DeQuincy, their victory bumped their record up to 6-7.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Jennings has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .505. However, it's not like DeQuincy struggles in that department as they've averaged .477. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jennings skirted past DeQuincy 5-3 in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Does Jennings have another victory up their sleeve, or will DeQuincy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
