Basketball Game Preview: Kingwood Mustangs vs. King Panthers

The Kingwood Mustangs will venture away from home to take on the King Panthers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Kingwood's tournament run continued when they took on Waco on Saturday. Kingwood wrapped up 2024 with a 53-34 victory over Waco. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when King took on Humble two weeks ago. King walked away with a 52-45 win over Humble. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while the Wildcats are ranked 297th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

King has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Kingwood, they now have a winning record of 13-12.

Kingwood was taken down by King 81-30 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Can Kingwood avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
