Softball Game Preview: West Orange Warriors vs. Wekiva Mustangs

West Orange is a perfect 10-0 against Wekiva since February of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. West Orange will be playing in front of their home fans against Wekiva at 7:00 p.m. West Orange hasn't scored more than a single run for four games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

West Orange's last matchup with Cornerstone Charter Academy could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Friday. West Orange came up short against Cornerstone Charter Academy, falling 14-1.

West Orange saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cynthia Cummings, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Those two hits gave Cummings a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Wekiva posted their closest win since March 7, 2024 on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Lake Buena Vista 17-16. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Vipers: they've now won four in a row.

Camilla Delgado was a standout: she scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Janelle Rodriguez was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Wekiva kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Wekiva's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for West Orange, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

Everything went West Orange's way against Wekiva in their previous meeting back in February of 2021, as West Orange made off with a 16-1 victory. Does West Orange have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wekiva turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
