Baseball Recap: York Catholic Find Success

York Catholic took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Columbia, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Fighting Irish narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Crimson Tide 3-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Fighting Irish.

Kyle Harman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Connor Latrechiano was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of York Catholic's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Verkest, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

York Catholic now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Columbia, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. York Catholic will face off against Mount Calvary Christian at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Columbia, they will challenge Annville-Cleona at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
